Arisa & Terrence
Our motivation to create the Low Footprint Living portal for sustainable living is to share some of what we’ve learned over decades of learning how to live well without trashing the planet that sustains us.
Arisa has been vegan for over 25 years, both cooked and raw. For as long as she can remember, she has eaten only organic food and cleaned her body and home only with natural products. She takes great joy out of supporting others to find health and joy in their own lives, and has not one evangelical bone in her body.
For most of his life, Terrence was a more conventional consumer, eating meat daily, not bothering about organics, using chemicals to clean his home and body, kill weeds and poison pests. He remembers how impossible it seemed to change. He now tells the tale of his own move towards more sustainable living — still learning, still amazed at how easy it is.
Arisa has children and grandchildren (that’s them in the photos). It appears they will inherit a depleted natural world, for which we feel partly responsible. Our response is to do our best to show them how to live well and flourish in an unwell world.

We would love to see a collective shift
towards a more mindful relationship
with the natural world we all share
– the one our children will inherit –
and to cultivate wellness, optimism,
resilience and kindness along the way,
because that kind of focus
just feels good and right.
All of that happens naturally
with a low footprint mindset
that is grateful for the gifts of this life.
We are not trying to ‘save the world’. The world doesn’t need saving. Humanity on the other hand appears to be heading for some seriously challenging hard times. We want to inspire everyone who visits this site to find good reason for optimism, that options will always be there for you and your kids and their kids to live well enough in a world with an unwell eco-system. We don’t like drama or tales of woe . We do insist though on being real about with ourselves what is happening in our shared world. Our response to what we see is to develop ways of living that will help us to survive and thrive in a world overwhelmed by human activity. Low Footprint Living is about sharing what we’ve learned in support of resilience, optimism and well-being for all those who are willing to achieve them. We feel some despair when we look at the state of the natural world and gaze into the probable future of the young ones we love, trying to live a healthy life in a world with a dying life-support system. Being worried and anxious helps no-one, especially us. We know it’s a mess, and we work hard stay optimistic about the quality of life we expect to have. This website is about that optimism, and the resources you need to make the good life real in your personal world, today and every day. It may take time to break old habits and learn a few new tricks, but it is time well spent… learning how to not trash the legacy we leave to all future generations.
